2014 Gran Cavalier Merlot - Gold Medal Winner

Delicata’s 2014, Gran Cavalier Merlot, DOK Malta, has been awarded a Gold medal at the 40th Challenge International du Vin held recently in Bourg, on the outskirts of Bordeaux in France.

Here, each spring more than 4000 wines from 37 countries are tasted by 700 wine professionals and connoisseurs from over 20 different nationalities to crown the best wines in their category.

The Challenge International du Vin is organised by the independent and non-profit making Concours des Vins. It’s one of the longest running major wine competitions in the world and the largest international wine competition held in France.

Previously, the same 2014 vintage of Delicata’s Gran Cavalier Merlot won also a Gold medal and the coveted Press Prize at the Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme competition in Bergamo, Italy.

The list of honours of this multiple gold-winning wine shows that Maltese Merlot can hold serious equity. When handled by a skilful winemaker, locally grown Merlot could very well be Malta’s most promising red variety for mind-blowing wines of word-class.
