Gold Medals

Two gold medals were added to Delicata’s roll of honour at the 10th International Oenological Competition ‘Emozioni dal Mondo: Merlot e Cabernet Insieme’ competition, which was held in Bergamo last week.

Delicata’s premium red wine Gran Cavalier Merlot D.O.K. Superior Malta of the 2012 vintage as well as the Medina Cabernet Franc D.O.K. Superior Malta of the 2013 vintage were both awarded top marks.

For a wine to receive a Gold Medal, it must have been awarded at least 85 points out of 100.  The scoring system is as follows: over 92 points = Grand Gold Medal score, 85 to 91 points = Gold Medal score and 80 to 84 points = Silver Medal score.

This international wine judging competition is organised by Vignaioli Bergamaschi s.c.a in cooperation with Consorzio Tutela Valcalepio under the patronage of the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin, and of the Italian Ministry for Agriculture.

Both gold medal winning red wines produced by winemaker Matthew Delicata were judged by tasting committees made up of international oenologists, wine journalists and wine producers. Organiser Sergio Cantoni declared that “this year’s edition was one of the best competitions ever. The wine samples were of the highest quality and getting exceptional results”.

This latest tandem of  gold medals brings Delicata’s total count of awards up to 94 which is an unparalleled number in Malta and a high number by any winery’s standard.
