ĠNIEN IL-KUNSILL, NADUR, GOZO
18th, 19th & 20th August 2017
The greatest wine event of the year comes to Nadur for its 16th edition in Gozo!
GOZO’S BEST VIEWS
Delicata, in conjunction with Nadur Local Council, will be taking its Classic Wine Festival to the viticultural heart of Gozo, Nadur for the 15th year on the 18th, 19th & 20th August 2017.
Once again this scenic, idyllic Gozitan village will come alive as the Delicata Classic Wine Festival gets underway at the ‘Ġnien il-Kunsill’ (Google Map).
GREAT AWARD-WINNING WINES
In all there will be over 20 wines to sample. Vintages of nine Delicata award-winning brands are served from as many stalls spread along the garden’s periphery.
These include the semi-sparkling Frizzantes made from the very rare native old bush vines Girgentina and Ġellewża. Besides a selection of delectable white, red and rosé DOK Malta wines from the Medina range, the DOK Gozo Victoria Heights boutique wines will also be on show.
And, let’s not forget the noble mono-varietals of the iconic flagship Gran Cavalier selection and Malta’s most internationally awarded Grand Vin de Hauteville range, including Malta’s only award-winning and super-trendy Viognier.
Or, enjoy the sweeter lifestyle Dolcino and the exclusive Maltese Falcon wines, the popular lush Casella Moscato and other varietals of the Classic Collection as well as all three of the Pjazza Reġina wines.
GET YOUR WINE PURSE
Wine coins will be the common currency at this summer’s Delicata Classic Wine Festival, exchangeable for glasses of delightful wines.
To try the wines, all festival revellers have to do is purchase 24 wine coins in a complimentary purse and a souvenir glass (yours to keep too), all for €15.
Handing over the correct change of wine coins at the stalls inside will prompt dedicated wine stewards to pour a standard 150 ml glass of the wine on show in the clearly marked festival glass. We generously serve all wines by the glass: no tasters, no bottles.
Different wines hold different currency: the charge ranges from 6 wine coins for a glass of the flagship selection to 3 coins for a pouring of other quality wines. The marked coins are valid for one night only; they may be kept as a memento.
DIFFERENT CUISINES AND GOZO SPECIALITIES
Live cooking stalls will be serving a tempting variety of both traditional Maltese and international dishes to tease a wide range of palates. There will be a selection of pizza, traditional Gozitan ftajjar, fried rabbit, suckling pig, Chinese dishes, grills and various baguettes and desserts.
New is the fully-seated al fresco restaurant ‘Il-Kċina’ operated by Catermax and Abraham’s serving a 4-course menu with a Maltese flavour and a selection of Delicata wines. Early booking is highly recommended so as to avoid disappointment. Call 2143 5201 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
MUSIC TO YOUR EARS
There’s a great entertainment bill every night. On Friday the stage features Ronald Briffa, Pierre Zammit, Elaine Haber, Gozo Boy Band and Straight Ahead; on Saturday there are performances by Ronald Briffa, Sarah Bonnici, Joseph Refalo, D Capitals, Rebecca Bonello and Upper Lip; and the festival closes on Sunday with Pierre Cordina, Kelly and the Band, MAE Band, Jolene Samhan, Cash and Band.
GET THERE WITH EASE
Getting to Gozo is a lovely experience in itself using the regular Gozo Channel ferry service. The journey takes about 25 minutes each way.
If you don’t wish to come by car, the special shuttle service laid on to commute to and fro the festival is a very practical option.
The shuttle mini-bus service between the Mgarr ferry terminal and Gnien il-Kunsill costs €2 for a return trip. The shuttle starts operating upon arrival of the ferry leaving Cirkewwa at 6.45 pm and ceases operations at 00.15am from Nadur to catch the ferry leaving Gozo at 00.45am.
Private taxis also service the venue.
Whilst entrance to the Festival is free, strictly no wine will be served to anyone under 17 and patrons are reminded to enjoy responsibly. Wine glasses are sold until 11 pm, wine is poured up to 11.30 pm and the festival closes at midnight. Mineral water and soft drinks are also available for purchase.
See you there!
