Delicata Wines in New York City
Delicata wines were part of the hospitality show in New York City last month, September 17.
A selection of ultra-local Maltese wines made by Malta’s award-winning winemaker Matthew Delicata were served at a special reception called “Taste History”.
The wine tasting concluded the special event “The Inalienable Truths of Malta” organised by The Malta Tourism Authority, in collaboration with Heritage Malta.
The occasion highlighted US-Maltese Naval history and unveiled a new tourist market niche as attendees learned about the ancient mysteries of the Maltese Islands (for example the myth surrounding Hypogeum’s enigmatic remains) that are well worth discovering during a trip to the archipelago.
A party of 60 distinguished guests, including dignitaries and VIPs, luxury travel advisors, tour operators, CEOs of travel industry associations, as well as consumer and travel industry media personalities were offered a taste of Malta’s wines made from the islands’ indigenous grapes.
Wine pro Georges Meekers curated Delicata’s wine list. It consisted of the Medina Ġellewża and Medina Girgentina Chardonnay DOK Malta and the Girgentina Frizzante and Ġellewża Frizzante IGT Maltese Islands.
Meekers commented that “these unique and rare wines, besides being simply delicious in their own right, fit the theme rather well in that the origin of the native varieties they are made from is not known either; nobody knows for sure how they originated in Malta. Speculation is rife but no theory can be proven. We do know though that they are native to the islands, and hence unique treasures.”
