Italian Honour for Delicata’s Viognier
Delicata’s premium 2014 vintage white Grand Vin de Hauteville Viognier DOK Malta Superior has been awarded a Diploma di Gran Menzione at the 2015 Vinitaly Wine Competition held recently in Verona, Italy.
This latest award comes fast on the heels of five other medals won last month in Bordeaux and Burgundy. It brings Delicata’s total award count up to 100 international wine awards.
The 22nd Vinitaly wine competition, the most selective, popular and long-standing in the world, was held after the actual Vinitaly exposition itself, from April 12 to16 in Verona.
Approximately 3000 samples from more than 30 countries were divided into 16 categories and tasted. They were assessed with strict regulations by 21 juries involving a total of 105 experts from 40 countries. Only three per cent of wines receive a medal.
The countries of origin of entries were Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, France, Germany, Japan, Greece, Israel, Italy, Malta, Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, New Zealand, Czech Republic, the Republic of San Marino, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, the US and Venezuela.
The competition is organised by Veronafiere and the International Wine Competition has the patronage of the Commission for Agriculture and Rural development of the European Parliament, the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV), the Union Internationale des Oenologues (UIOe), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies and the Ministry for Economic Development.
