Three Gold Medals for Delicata Red Wines
We are proud to announce that three Gold medals have been awarded to three of our red wines at the 2015 Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme international wine competition, which was held in Bergamo, Italy last week. The Gold medals were awarded to two of our premium flagship reds, the 2014 Gran Cavalier barrel matured Merlot D.O.K. Superior Malta and the 2014 Grand Vin de Hauteville Cabernet Sauvignon D.O.K. Superior Malta, as well as a Gold for our incredibly good value 2014 Classic Collection Marenzio Merlot I.G.T. Maltese Islands. The 2014 Gran Cavalier Merlot was also awarded the Premio Della Stampa (press prize), a special award commended by a select commission of wine journalists to the highest scoring wine entered from each country.
This international competition only judges wines made from the three red grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The three Gold medal winning Delicata Cabernet and Merlot wines were won alongside other prestigious gold medal winning producers, such as the renowned Italian Chianti winemaker Tenuta Vicchiomaggio in Tuscany, Chilean winemaker from the Maipo Valley Laroche and the French winemakers Grand Encios du Chateau de Cerons from the Graves region of Bordeaux.
The international judging panels for the wines at the Emozioni dal Mondo Merlot e Cabernet Insieme composed of special commissions of no less than five members – made up by oenologists, oenotechnicians, sensorialists, professional tasters and oenogastronomic journalists, coming from 24 different countries. According to OIV regulations only 30% of the samples submitted can be awarded a medal and to win a Gold medal the wines must be awarded between 85 to 100 points. Wines from 17 different winemaking countries participated in this year’s competition. This year’s competition was organised by the Vignaioli Bergamaschi S.C.A. with the sponsorship of the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV) and the authorisation of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, with the scientific collaboration of the Interuniversity Centre for Winegrowing and Enology of Verona, the Degree in Winemaking and Enology from the University of Udine, the Winegrowing Institute of the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Piacenza and the Wine tasters study centre.
Earlier this year we celebrated a noteworthy milestone in our long history, by being awarded over 100 International wine awards (1995 – 2015). These latest Gold medals now bring Delicata’s total international wine award count up to an impressive 110 awards. Twenty-six of these awards (6 Gold, 2 Silver, 9 Bronze, 8 Commendations and a Press award) were won in the last two years, all under the direct stewardship of Matthew Delicata, the company’s winemaker. Delicata is Malta’s most awarded winery. The complete list of 110 awards and the wines accredited can be viewed on : https://delicata.com/awards or www.facebook.com/DelicataWinery
